ROCKFORD, Ill. - For the third consecutive year, the Regents opened the football season with a date with the University of Dubuque Spartans.  For the third consecutive year, the Regents came up on the short side of the score board.  On Saturday, Rockford suffered their worst loss in the nine-year history of the program 60-7 at Sam Greeley Field.

The Spartans jumped out to an early lead, scoring just four minutes into the game, en route to a commanding 21-0 lead after the first quarter.  By the halftime break, the Regents trailed 33-0 and had managed only 45 yards of total offense.

The Regents finally cracked the end zone with a six play, 67 yard drive, keyed by a 57 yard connection between sophomores quarterback Tyler Baran (Plainfield, Ill./ Plainfield North) and running back Koree Blackful (Sauk Village, Ill./ Rich East).  The two also connected on a five yard pass for the score.

Baran finished the day 7-15 for 94 yards and the touchdown pass.  Blackful notched 75 receiving yards.  Junior Josh Ross (Elgin, Ill./ Larkin) led the Regents defense with nine tackles, including a sack.

The Regents will hit the road next week to visit Kalamazoo College.
