Regents Senior Runners Impressive in Season Opener

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Senior Audra Carlson (Winnebago, Ill./ Winnebago) started the Rockford College cross country season off with a strong 3rd place finish at the Waubonsee Invitational in Sugar Grove, Illinois. The former Winnebago High School “All-State” performer ran the challenging 5K course in 20:44, setting a positive atmosphere for the men’s team competing in the following race.
According to Assistant Coach Tony Hardin, “Audra ran an intelligent & tactical race from the middle of the pack all the way to third place. It was a great start for Rockford College and a promising start to Audra’s senior year”
In the second race of the day, the Rockford men’s team placed 3 runners in the top 7 and brought home the 2nd place team trophy. The Regents were led by senior Seth Lagerhausen (Mesa, Ariz./ Dobson) (2nd), senior Matt Lindgren (Oak Forest, Ill./ Oak Forest) (6th), sophomore Victor Reyes (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./ Zion Benton) (7th), junior Randy Ebert (Belvidere, Ill./ Marengo) (17th), Tyler Mendenhall (Prophetstown, Ill./ Prophetstown) (21st), and junior David Gray (Erie, Ill./ Erie) (34th).
“We looked very comfortable out there today and got off to a good start to what should be a very competitive cross country season”, added Assistant Coach Chad Zeman.
The Regents next meet will be September 19th at 11:00 a.m., at the Concordia University Wisconsin Invitational in Mequon, Wisconsin.
