ROCKFORD, IL – Though the Rockford College baseball season may have ended a few games earlier than expected, the honors continue to come to Regents baseball players. A few weeks ago, six Regents players received various All-Northern Athletics Conference honors. On Wednesday, seniors Chris Brockman (Freedom, WI/ Freedom) and Shaun Dascher (Lena, IL/ Lena-Winslow) were selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Midwest Region Third Team. They joined seven other Northern Athletics Conference players to be recognized among the 50 best players in the region.
“Both of these young men have been instrumental in our success in my three years at Rockford College,” said Regents’ head coach Bob Koopmann. “Chris and Shaun have really been leaders both on and off the field for our program and this honor is a testament to their dedication and work ethic.”
Brockman, an art major, was Rockford’s offensive leader in 2009. He led the team in at bats (167), hits (62), doubles (21), and RBI’s (56) and was among the team’s leaders in runs (49) and home runs (7), while batting a career high .371 for the season. A two-time all-NAC honoree, Brockman ended his career as Rockford’s all-time leader in career at bats (604), doubles (47), and RBI’s (151).
Dascher, a sports management major, has been Rockford’s offensive catalyst during his three-year career for the Regents. Rockford’s lead-off hitter hit .394 for the year while setting a new Rockford record with 62 hits. Dascher also owns school records for hit by pitches in a season (20) and career (49) which when combined with a .374 career batting average have helped establish a career on base percentage of .492. The three-time all-NAC performer was also named to the 2007 ABCA All-Central Third Team.
Rockford finished the 2009 campaign 27-14 (17-5 NAC) and lost in the semifinals of the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament.
