ROCKFORD, IL – Over the weekend, the Northern Athletics Conference released all-conference teams for both softball and men’s outdoor track. Listed among the conference’s best were two Regents, Jessica Starr (Evergreen Park, IL/ Evergreen) and Matt Lindgren (Oak Forest, IL/ Oak Forest) for their respective sports.
Starr, a senior physical education major, received her third all-conference selection. Starr adds the 2009 First Team honor to a second team honor in 2008 and an all-conference honor in 2007. Rockford’s career hits leader was the offensive force behind the Regents in 2009. Starr led Rockford with a .403 batting average, 48 hits, 11 doubles, and 34 RBI’s. The left fielder also ranks among the NAC’s best in triples, total bases, and RBI’s.
For Lindgren, a junior biology major, this is his ninth all-conference award, three each in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track. In these three events, all-conference nods are determined by finish in the conference meet, meaning that Lindgren has been best when it counts. In his feature race, the 800 meters, Lindgren in a three-time NAC Champion. Lindgren finished second in the 800 meters at last week’s NAC Championship with a time of 1:56.83 for his most recent conference recognition.
