ROCKFORD (WREX) - With Earth Day on Wednesday and Arbor Day Friday, Rockford College will celebrate with an entire Earth Week. That includes a "Green Expo."

"We've got 10 to 20 vendors coming and we've got a few other events like potting plants, and paper making and using recycled paper," said Amy Collinsworth, president of the Rotaract Club.

One of the topics will be climate change, using the film "An Inconvenient Truth" to start a public discussion.

"We always welcome the public to our events. All our events have a learning purpose and I believe the community can learn from it too, so everybody is welcome to come," said Lindsay Kent, coordinator of the Jane Addams Center.

All week, they're collecting aluminum cans, which will, of course, be recycled. The proceeds from that will go toward buying a section of rainforest. And they're having some fun with it, too.

"We also have a competition with the dorms and see who can have the most cans," added Kent.

They're also collecting plastic yogurt cups to be used as miniature flower planters. And to round out the week, they'll be planting a tree and lilac bushes near the college entrance.

Below is the list of events for the remainder of the week:

Wednesday 4/22

11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Canvas bag decorating under the library overhang - students will be able to decorate their own canvas bag.

6 or 7 p.m. "An Inconvenient Truth" movie and discussion in Starr 207

Thursday 4/23

11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Flower planting under the library overhang using empty yogurt cups collected from students, faculty and staff.

Friday 4/24

9 a.m. Students will plant trees around campus - they will be working on the triangle area near A-lot at this time and will possibly be working in other areas that afternoon.
