LOVES PARK, IL – The Rockford College baseball team extended their current win streak to six straight with two important wins over the visiting Edgewood College Eagles. The Regents’ 3-1 and 9-3 wins improved Rockford’s record to 21-9 (13-3 NAC), good for a slim one game advantage in the conference standings, with six NAC contests remaining.
As one would expect from these two rivals, both games of the doubleheader were tight. Rockford opened the scoring in game one when senior Shaun Dascher (Lena, IL/ Lena-Winslow) singled in two runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Regents added an insurance run in the seventh when senior Chris Brockman (Freedom, WI/ Freedom) doubled in Dascher. The story of the game was the pitching performance of junior Travis Mohr (Bryant, IA/ Northeast) who threw 7.2 innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run for his fourth win of the year. Senior Zach Jones (Beloit/ WI/ Turner) closed the door on the Eagles with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to gain his first save of the season.
Rockford used more consistency in the game two win. Dascher again led the Regents’ offense with three hits and three runs scored. Eight Regents accounted for one RBI each in the win. Junior Kevin Patterson (Manhattan, IL/ Lincolnway Central) notched his third win of the season after pitching out of several potentially difficult situations. Patterson allowed two earned runs through six innings. Senior Jeff Jacobson (Janesville, WI/ Craig) pitched the game’s final three innings for his first save of the year.
Rockford will celebrate the careers of their seven senior during their next home doubleheader, a visit from the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders, on Thursday at Road Ranger Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
