MILWAUKEE, WI – The Rockford College softball team closed their 2009 season with two convincing wins at Alverno College.  The Regents swept the Inferno 9-4 and 7-0 to finish their season with a record of 16-21 (8-15 NAC).

After giving up a run in the bottom of the first inning and struggling early with Alverno pitching, the Regents’ bats awoke from their slumber in the top of the fourth inning to the tune of three runs.  Rockford then exploded for six more runs on five hits in the sixth to seal the game.  Senior Christina Koblosh (Yonkers, NY/ Our Lady of Victory) led Rockford with three hits, two runs scored, and two RBI’s.  Junior Andrea Hundertmark (Freeport, IL/ Highland JC) also scored two runs and had two RBI’s for Rockford.

Rockford’s offense remained hot through the second game, as the Regents plated four runs in the first inning of game two.  The Regents pounded Inferno pitching 12 hits en route to the 7-0 win.  Senior Jessica Starr (Evergreen Park, IL/ Evergreen Park), Rockford’s new career hit queen, led the Regents going 5-5 with a run scored and two RBI’s.  Starr’s five hits extended her career hits total to 172, best in school history.  Her two doubles also set a new Regent of 37 for her career.

The Regents finished their 2009 campaihn with an overall record of 16-12 (8-15), a three game improvement over their 2008 season.  Rockford was led by senior captain Starr and her .403 batting average, 48 hits, including 11 doubles and two home runs, and 34 RBI's.  Three other regulars batted above .300 for the season, including junior pitcher Aletha Cunningham (Byron, IL/ Byron), sophomore Aria Ruotsi (Zion, IL/ Zion-Benton), and sophomore Kristi Durlak (Lake Villa, IL/ Grant), with batting averages of .355, .336, and .324, respectively.  Ruotsi also led Rockford's speed game with 13 steals, followed closely by Hundertmark's 12.

On the mound, Cunningham pitched 37 of Rockford's 38 games, finishing the season with an earned run average of 3.88, 299 hits, and 134 strike outs in 232.2 innings pitched.
