LOVES PARK, IL – The Rockford College baseball team put on an offensive display on Monday as they swept the visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors 22-6 and 13-0 at Road Ranger Stadium. The victories improved the Regents current win streak to four straight and set their overall record at 19-9 (11-3 NAC) heading into Tuesday’s match-up against Edgewood College.
Due to a rare venue change, the Regents were actually the visiting team on their home field, and they took full advantage of the opportunity to bat first, scoring seven runs before Regents sophomore Will Kuchelmeister (Kaukauna, WI/ Kaukauna) took the mound. By the end of the third inning, Rockford was in complete control, leading 12-0. The Regents scored in six of their seven at-bats and recorded 22 hits. Four Regents recorded four hits led by freshman Jimmy Dercks’ (Kaukauna, WI/ Kaukauna) 4-4 performance. Three Regents also knocked in four runs, including Dercks, Rob Wiest (Machesney Park, IL/ Harlem), and Eric Nicholson (Stillman Valley, IL/ Rock Valley CC).
Rockford did not slow down their offensive output in game two. Chris Brockman (Freedom, WI/ Freedom) opened the scoring with a solo home run in the fourth and the Regents really got going in the sixth inning, plating four more runs. Rockford tallied seven in the top of the eighth led by a two-run home run by Dercks. Brockman and Dercks each recorded three RBI’s. The story of the game, however, was the dominant performance of junior pitcher Adam Ketzner (Mundelein, IL/ College of Lake County). Ketzner picked up his first win of the year in impressive fashion. Ketzner threw 103 pitches, allowed just two hits and struck out 14 batters.
Rockford will host Edgewood College on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Road Ranger Stadium.
