ROCKFORD, IL – When the Northern Athletics Conference released their list of top student-athletes performances from last week, among the list were two Regents. Senior Brad Pemberton (Carol Stream, IL/ Glenbard North) and junior Matt Lindgren (Oak Forest, IL/ Oak Forest) were named NAC Student-Athletes of the Week for tennis and outdoor track, respectively, for the week ending Sunday, April 26, 2009.
Pemberton, a senior physical education major, is the first Regents tennis player to receive the award. As Rockford’s #4 singles player, Pemberton notched wins against Lakeland College and Marian University last week. Pemberton also partnered with David Burritt (Belvidere, IL/ Belvidere) as Rockford’s #2 doubles team for wins over Lakeland and Marian. For the week, Pemberton accounted for four of Rockford’s five total points.
Lindgren, a junior biology major, continued his impressive outdoor track season. The 2008 NAC 800 meter champion remains in dominant form in that event this season, evidenced by his victory at Saturday’s Concordia University Chicago Cougar Invitational. Lindgren won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.04. The junior now holds the two best 800 times in the NAC this season. Lindgren also ran a blistering 52.1 split in the 4x400 relay, leading his team of Victor Reyes (Winthrop Harbor, IL/ Zion Benton), Bobby Tassone (Sandwich, IL/ Sandwich), and Jeff Orlowski (Ottawa, IL/ Ottawa) to a new Rockford College record time of 3:42.08.
Both Pemberton and Lindgren will lead their teams into their respective conference championship events this weekend. Pemberton and the tennis team will travel to Jackson, WI for the NAC Championship at the Pleasant Valley Tennis Club. Lindgren and the Regents track team will run in the NAC Championship in River Forest, IL at Concordia University Chicago.
