ROCKFORD, IL – Over the last six games, the Rockford College men’s basketball team managed to get off to great starts, leading to dominating wins.  That all changed on Friday night in the semifinal round of the Northern Athletics Conference tournament, as the Regents ended their six game win streak and their season with a 76-66 loss to the visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors.  The Regents finished their season 17-10, only the sixth time in school history the team has recorded 17 wins.

Though the Regents opened the scoring, the Warriors took control of the score board early, building a 10 point lead midway through the first half.  Though Rockford trailed by a game-high 15 points with 8:56 to play in the opening stanza, Rockford managed to chip away at the Warrior’s lead, trailing 34-25 after the game’s first 20 minutes.

The second half was much like the first.  The Regents fought valiantly to try and regain momentum but every time Rockford managed to bring the game back to a manageable deficit, the Warriors responded with a big shot.  Unlike had happened so many times throughout the 2008-09 campaign, the Regents failed to connect on the big shot when they needed it, especially from beyond the arc where Rockford shot only 24% for the game.

Junior Danny Armelin (Gonzales, TX/ Gonzales) led four Regents in double-figure scoring with 15 points.  Sophomore Taylor Stinson (Schiller Park, IL/ east Leyden) added 12 points, while junior Garrett Staniec (Glenview, IL/ Glenbrook South) record his third double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds.  Rockford’s lone senior Rennell Taylor (Chicago, IL/ Hales Franciscan) scored 14 points and handed out six assists in his final Seaver Center appearance.
