Rockford College’s choir group, The Vocal Collective, will give a free pre-tour concert for the public March 6, 7 p.m. in the college’s Maddox Theatre.

This spring’s concert tour heads to Florida March 7- 14 with stops in Orlando, Kissimmee, Fort Myers, Naples, and Sarasota.  The tour program features a broad array of choral styles from madrigals and spirituals to American folk songs and melodies from Mexico, Israel, and South Africa. Inspiring arrangements of “Gift to be Simple,” “Poor Wayfarin’ Stranger,” and Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land” are included in the concert.

The Vocal Collective is a select, mixed choral ensemble of 17 singers that performs a wide variety of choral literature, from Renaissance polyphony to jazz and popular music. The ensemble serves as an ambassador for the college, performing at college functions and representing Rockford College at community events such as sport games, corporate events and city gatherings. Students from all four classes and from many disciplines make up the Vocal collective. This is the group's fifth year in existence.
