Author and speaker Bakari Kitwana presents the talk, “Young Americans in the New Economy” February 26, 5 p.m. in Rockford College’s Regent’s Hall.

Kitwana will discuss a new survey he commissioned in 2008 of 18-24-year olds that explores concerns about the economy including jobs, gas prices, and entrepreneurship opportunities and how young Americans are affected by the recent global economic crises.

Kitwana is also the author of “The Hip Hop Generation: Young Blacks and the Crises in African American Culture” that examines the major social and political forces that have shaped young blacks after the civil rights movement.

The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the college’s Kobe Regents Center for Global Education and the Jane Addams Center for Civic Engagement. For more information, call 815-394-5112.
