ROCKFORD, IL – On Saturday, Rockford College joined hundreds of high schools and colleges throughout the country in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Pink Zone, an annual initiative to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. The Regents, however, were not alone in their awareness efforts. RBI Bar and Grill and Buffalo Wild Wings also made significant contributions to the breast cancer awareness efforts.
On Wednesday night, just before the Regents’ women’s basketball team played their final home game of the 2008-09 season, Rockford College interim athletic director Kristyn King and associate athletic director Cory Espensen joined Holly Martin from Buffalo Wild Wings in presenting a $1200 check to Sara Abrahamson from the American Cancer Society.
“The American Cancer Society is such a great organization that touches the lives of so many people, not just in the Rock River area, but throughout the country,” said King after the presentation. “Anything that we can do in support of their efforts we certainly will. Anytime you can raise money and have a great time doing it, everyone benefits.”
This marks the second time this year that Regents athletics have worked with the American Cancer Society. Rockford’s women’s basketball and softball teams volunteered for the 2008 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event in Loves Park, IL.
