Regents Baseball Tabbed 2nd in NAC Poll

Waukesha, WI. – On Tuesday, the Northern Athletics Conference released its coaches’ preseason poll for the upcoming 2009 baseball season.  Benedictine was selected to win the conference after sharing the title last season with Rockford.  The Regents were tabbed to finish second receiving 5 less total points than Benedictine but Rockford actually received more 1st place votes.  Rockford finished 27-17 last year, 17-5 in the NAC, regular season co-champions and won the conference tournament each of the last 2 seasons.     

Last season the Regents had a pair of players that finished the year ranked in nationally ranked in NCAA Division III Statistical Categories.  Shaun Dascher (Lena, IL/ Lena-Winslow) finished the 2008 season with 15 hit by pitches which ranked 18th in the nation last season.  Tyler Magnuson was the 19th toughest player to strike out last season with only 6 strike outs in 159 at bats.

The Regents enter NAC play as the 2-time defending champions of both the regular season and conference tournament.  The Regents’ baseball program has tallied 56 wins over the past two seasons, including a school record 29 wins in 2007.  Rockford College will open the 2009 season on Saturday, March 7, when they travel to Arizona to compete in the Greater Phoenix Invitational.  The Regents will open with a double header against Simpson College (IA) at 12:30 p.m. PST.  The Regents will host their first game of 2009 (weather permitting) on Saturday, March 21 at 12:00 p.m., when they welcome Wheaton College to Road Ranger Stadium.
