SHEBOYGAN, WI – Coming off Saturday’s most impressive victory of the season and having pretty much clinched the number two position in the Northern Athletic Conference North division, it would have been understandable for the Rockford College men’s basketball team to relax a bit as they traveled to Lakeland College.  Instead, the Regents managed their best shooting performance of the last several years and their second highest scoring output of the season, defeating Lakeland 97-80.

Had this been a video game, the Regents may have been wearing red instead of their traditional black road uniforms as they shot a blistering 64.3% from the floor in the opening stanza.  Junior Randon Williams (Chicago, IL/ Westinghouse) led Rockford to a 44-29 halftime lead with 13 points and 6 rebounds.

The Muskies came out of the locker room with a renewed sense of urgency, immediately embarking on a 18-4 run, slicing the Regents’ lead to 49-47 just five minutes into the half.  But as Rockford has done so many times this season, they continued to fight, eventually stretching their advantage back to double-digits.  Rockford went 13-14 from the free throw stripe over the game’s final two minutes to seal the game.

Williams led Rockford with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and five steals, becoming the first men’s basketball player in school history to go 10-10 from the floor in a game, breaking a record set back in 1967 when Jeff Lindquist and Ray Eissens both went 9-9.  Senior Rennell Taylor (Chicago, IL/ Hales Franciscan) led three other Regents in double-figure scoring with 27 points.  Andrew Weber (Roscoe, IL/ Boylan) and Danny Armelin (Gonzales, TX/ Gonzales) added 18 and 15 points, respectively.  For the game, Rockford shot 62.3% from the floor.

Rockford will host MSOE on Saturday in the NAC Divisional Challenge game at 3:00 p.m. at the Seaver Center.  They will open play in the Northern Athletics Conference post-season tournament with a home game on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
