Nielsen Breaks Record in Loss

MEQUON, WI – Coming off two consecutive wins, the Rockford College women’s basketball team looked to continue their winning ways a they traveled to Mequon, WI to face the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons. Though the Regents fell 66-51, the game was highlighted by a Regents’ record.
Over the past three and a half years, Regents senior Kim Nielsen (Evergreen Park, IL/ Evergreen Park) has been raining three-pointers at a solid clip, but until Wednesday, they had just been three points on the board. Just 34 seconds into Wednesday night’s game, Nielsen hit another three, but this one was different. With the Regents’ first basket of the game, Nielsen became the Regents all-time three-point leader. The bucket, Nielsen’s 111th in her career, broke Paula Jones’ previous record set between 2003 and 2006.
On the game, Nielsen led Rockford with 19 points on 7-15 shooting, including 5-11 from beyond the arc. Britney Curry (Merrillville, IN/ Merrillville) and Melissa Swaziek (Machesney Park, IL/ Harlem) combined for 22 points. Curry also had six rebounds, four steals, and two blocked shots.
Rockford will return to the Seaver Center on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. when they host Alverno College.
