WATERTOWN, WI – With the Rockford College men’s basketball schedule coming to a close, the Regents need to play well to continue to maintain a solid seed for the Northern Athletics Conference post-season tournament. Rockford did just that on Tuesday, with a 84-62 win over host Maranatha Baptist Bible College. The win improved the Regents’ NAC record to 7-6 and overall record to 12-9.
Right from the opening tip, there was no doubt that Rockford was on a mission. The Regents opened the game on an 18-0 run over the game’s first 2:30. Playing with out two starters, the Regents shot 50% from the floor in the first half, en route to a 50-27 advantage. Junior Leon Alford (Chicago, IL/ St. Laurence) led Rockford in the opening stanza with 13 points while junior Randon Williams (Chicago, IL/ Westinghouse) dominated the glass to the tune of 15 first half rebounds.
Rockford continued their solid play after the break as they pushed their advantage to a game-high 24 points. Alford continued his solid play with 10 second half point and seven rebounds.
For the game, Alford led four Regents in double figures with a career-high 23 points. Rennell Taylor (Chicago, IL/ Hales Franciscan), Taylor Stinson (Schiller Park, IL/ East Leyden), and Andrew Weber (Roscoe, IL/ Boylan) combined for 42 points. Williams finished the contest with a career-high 22 rebounds.
The Regents will get a few days off before welcoming the Marian University Sabers to the Seaver Center on Wednesday, February 11. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
