ROCKFORD, IL – After a huge road victory on Wednesday, the Rockford College men’s basketball team looked to continue their hot streak on Saturday with a visit from Benedictine University. Unfortunately, the Regents could not continue their mojo, falling to the Eagles 73-66 to fall to 11-9 (6-6 NAC) on the season.
As has been the case with most Rockford games this year, both teams tried to gain an early momentum, but after 20 minutes neither had gained control. Tied at 31, the game’s opening stanza featured seven ties and six lead changes. Danny Aremlin (Gonzales, TX/ Gonzales) and Taylor Stinson (Schiller Park, IL/ East Leyden) combined for 17 first half points, while Randon Williams (Chicago, IL/ Westinghouse) added six points off the bench.
The Eagles seized control of the game late in the second half with a 12-2 run that established a 66-52 lead with just over three minutes to play. Rockford shot just 35.7% from the floor, including 5-12 from beyond the arc, during their comeback attempt.
Armelin led Rockford with 20 points. Rennell Taylor (Chicago, IL/ Hales Franciscan) added 16 points and four steals. Williams chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
Rockford will travel to Watertown, WI to face Maranatha Baptist Bible College on Tuesday for another NAC showdown. They will return to the Seaver Center on February 11 when they host the Marian University Sabers.
