FOND DU LAC, WI – The Rockford College men’s basketball team pushed their current win streak to three straight with an 84-77 win at Marian University last night. The win improved the Regents’ NAC record to 4-4 and 9-7 overall.
As has been the case with many of Rockford’s recent games, the first half reflected two teams trying to feel each other out. That was at least until Marian went on a 16-2 run late in the first half to establish a 38-27 advantage with just over two minutes to play. By halftime, Rockford had cut the Marian advantage to six at 40-34.
After eliminating the halftime deficit, Rockford embarked on a 14-3 run to take a commanding 64-53 lead with just under 10 minutes to play. Marian would, however, close the gap, tying the score at 76 with 2:14 to play. That would be the final time that Marin would get on the score board, as Rockford went 6-8 from the free throw line to seal the victory.
Senior Rennell Taylor (Chicago, IL/ Hales Franciscan) led the Regents with 28 points, including 10-10 from the free throw line, while playing all 40 minutes. Sophomore Taylor Stinson (Schiller Park, IL/East Leyden) and junior Andrew Weber (Roscoe, IL/ Boylan) tallied 18 and 13 points respectively. Junior reserve Randon Williams (Chicago, IL/ Westinghouse) added eight points and seven rebounds off the bench.
Rockford will return to the Seaver Center on Thursday, January 22, when they host Lakeland College. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
