ROCKFORD, IL – For the second time in three weeks, Rockford College senior guard Rennell Taylor (Chicago, IL/ Hales Franciscan) has been named Northern Athletics Conference Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week. This award, for the week ending January 18, 2009, matched the honor Taylor won two weeks ago.
Taylor was dominant in leading the Regents to a 2-0 week, improving their overall record to 8-7 (3-4 NAC) entering the week. In Tuesday’s win at Edgewood College, Taylor recorded 24 points on 11-20 shooting, four assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Taylor improved his scoring significantly when Rockford needed it most in Saturday’s 94-92 overtime win over Dominican University. Taylor became the second men’s player in NAC history to reach the 40-point plateau, shooting 14-21 shooting from the field and 12-16 from the charity stripe. Taylor’s most important points of his night were the final two, a 12-foot jumper that sailed through the net as the game’s final buzzer sounded. Taylor also played a whopping 82 of 85 possible minutes during the week.
Taylor currently leads the Northern athletics Conference averaging 18.7 points per game. The physical education major also ranks second in the NAC in assists (4.4) and minutes played (36.3).
