Rockford, IL – Fabian Gomez, the former Regents hurler, will return to Rockford this fall after signing with the Rockford RiverHawks of the Frontier League.  Gomez will again join Rockford College head coach and RiverHawks manager Bob Koopmann.

Though the lefty pitched only one year for the Regents, his imprint has been left all over the Regents record books.  Gomez set school records for wins (8), strikeouts in a game (18), and strikeouts in a season (123).  Gomez, the 2007 Northern Athletics Conference Player of the Year, was also named to the All-America First Team after leading the country in strikeouts and finishing the year with a 1.93 earned run average.

As members of the 2007 Rockford College baseball team, Koopmann led Gomez and the Regents to the inaugural Northern Athletics Conference Championship.  Following the season Gomez was drafted by the Oakland A’s and spent two seasons pitching for Vancouver of the Single-A Northwest League.  Gomez went 5-3 with 39 strike outs coming out of the Canadians bullpen.
