ROCKFORD, IL – It may have taken a 35-point effort and a game-winning shot, but for the first time in the nearly three year history of the Northern Athletics Conference, a Rockford College men’s basketball player has been named NAC Student-Athlete of the Week. Senior guard Rennell Taylor (Chicago, IL/ Hales Franciscan) received the honor for the week of December 29 through January 4.
Taylor, a physical education major, was played bigger than his 5’10” frame during the Regents 2-1 week. He led Rockford with a career-high 35 points in a 95-89 win over Defiance College in their P&G Financial Tournament. He came back with 16 points, four assists, and four steals in the tournament final. On Saturday, Taylor hit the game-winning shot in the final seconds of Rockford’s 75-73 victory over Ripon College.
For the week, Taylor averaged 20.3 points and 5.0 assists per game while playing nearly 37 minutes per contest.
Taylor and his Regents teammates will next take the floor on Saturday, January 10, when they travel to River Forest, IL to face the Concordia University Chicago Cougars. Tip is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
