DEFIANCE, OH - During the first half of Monday’s victory over Defiance College, the Rockford College men’s basketball team shot a whopping 57.5%, connecting on 23 field goals. Unfortunately for the Regents, they could not carry that momentum into Tuesday’s P&G Financial Tournament Final against Calvin College. Rockford shot only 37.5 % from the floor, connecting on only 9 field goals in the game’s first 20 minutes, en route to a 90-71 loss. Conversely, Calvin shot 57.6% to establish a 50-26 lead by halftime.
Rockford was led by all-tournament performers Rennell Taylor (Chicago, IL/ Hales Franciscan) and Danny Armelin (Gonzales, TX/ Gonzales) who scored 16 points apiece in the loss. Taylor also recorded four steals and four assists. Garrett Staniec (Glenview, IL/ Glenbrook South) and Taylor Stinson (Schiller Park, IL/ East Leyden) added 15 and 11 points respectively for Rockford. Staniec led the Regents with nine rebounds.
Rockford will host Ripon College (4-3) on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Seaver Center on the campus of Rockford College.
