MEQUON, WI - After a spirited 20-0 win over Maranatha on Senior Day last week, the Rockford College football team hoped to capitalize on last week's performance as they travel to face Concordia University Wisconsin in their final game of the 2008 season. Unfortunately for Rockford, they could not hold the momentum for 60 minutes, eventually falling to 2-8 on the season with a 44-24 loss.
Rockford took the crossed the goal line first late in the first quarter when seniors Matt Muscia (Chicago, IL/ Holy Cross) and Ben Powers (Winnebago, IL/ Winnebago) connected for a 12 yard touchdown pass. Three minutes into the second quarter, the Regents defense go tin to the scoring act, as junior Luke Clausen (Roscoe, IL/ Hononegah) returned a CUW fumble 12 yards, giving Rockford a 14-0 lead. Concordia Wisconsin then took complete control of the game, scoring two touchdowns in the final 2:27 of the first half, a run that continued into the third quarter. By the end of the third quarter, the Regents trailed 38-14.
The Regents tried to mount a late comback, but a 56-yard touchdown pass from Muscia to freshman Randy Revere and a 22-yard field goal by freshman George Beres (Hoffman Estates, IL/ Hoffman Estates) were not enough for Rockford to get back into the game.
Muscia finished the game 14-30 for 175 yards and two touchdowns. He also led the Regents in rushing with 12 carries for 64 yards. Revere finished with 5 catches for 100 yards.
