ROCKFORD, IL –  On Monday, Rockford College Athletic Director Randy Schrader named A.J. Segneri as the new coach for both the Regents women’s and men’s tennis programs.

“Coach Segneri brings a wealth of knowledge about the game of tennis, both as a coach and player,” said Schrader.  “We believe that his contacts in the local tennis circles will certainly help establish Rockford College as a viable competitor in the Northern Athletics Conference on both the men’s and women’s sides.”

The Sterling, IL native comes to the Regents after coaching stints at his alma mater Sterling High School and Sauk Valley Community College.  In addition to acting as a tennis instructor at the Westwood Sports Complex in Sterling, Segneri freelances as a private tennis tutor.

As a player, Segneri has been involved in the Rockford tennis scene for nearly 20 years. In fact, his first tournament as a player was a junior tournament at the Clock Tower Racquet Club.  Coach Segneri also played on a Unites States Tennis Association (USTA) 5.0 travel tennis league team with former Regents tennis coach Bob Hayes.

“The Rockford community has a long tradition of tennis excellence with its players and facilities,” said Coach Segneri upon his hiring.  “I hope to further integrate the Rockford College tennis programs into the local tennis community and establish Rockford College as a perennial competitor in the Northern Athletics Conference.”
