ROCKFORD, IL – When the Northern Athletics Conference released its list of Student-Athletes of the Week, it was no surprise to anyone at Rockford College that junior quarterback Mike Sosnowski (Eldridge, IA/ North Scott) was listed among the weekly winners. The junior signal caller was instrumental in the Regents 41-38 overtime victory over Concordia University Chicago.
Entering the game with Rockford trailing 14-0 midway through the 1st quarter, Sosnowski immediately sparked both the Regents’ offense and defense. Sosnowski’s first two drives ended in Regents touchdowns, including a 20 yard strike to senior receiver Ben Powers (Winnebago, IL/ Winnebago). Defensively, Rockford stymied the CUC offense, forcing three consecutive punts.
Sosnowski’s effect on the game continued after the halftime break, as he led Rockford to touchdowns on four of their five second half drive. Most importantly, Sosnowski crossed the goal line from two yards out in the game’s final play of overtime, giving Rockford their first win of the year.
On the day, Sosnowski was 8-16 for 88 yards and two touchdowns through the air and had 14 rushes for 125 yards and two scores.
The Regents will travel to Milwaukee, WI on Saturday to face Wisconsin Lutheran College. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
