Regents Spike the Crusaders

ROCKFORD, IL - The Rockford College volleyball team kept the winnig feeling alive to open Homecoming 2008 with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders on Tuesday night at the Seaver Center.  After consecutive NAC losses, the Regents wasted no time jumping on the Crusaders, taking game one 25-18.  Rockford narrowly escaped in game two with a 27-25 final score, before dropping the third game by a score of 25-17.  

What turned out to be the match's final game may have been the best of the night. Both teams played superb defense and made timely plays, but eventually the Regents claimed the 25-23 game victory and the subsequent 3-1 match win.

Regents senior Amelia King (German Valley, IL/ Forreston) led Rockford with 19 kills and 18 digs.  Melissa Swaziek (Machesney Park, IL/ Harlem) and Clara Wiersma (Rockton, IL/ Hononegah) added 12 and 11 kills, respectively.   Tara Dean (Janesville, WI/ Craig), Haley Emford (Lena, IL/ Lena-Winslow), and Tori Turman (Winnebago, IL/ Winnebago) combined for 32 digs. 

Rockford will host Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday night at the Seaver Center.  The ball is set to go up at 7:00 p.m.
