Regents Men Run to Opening Victory

ROCKFORD, IL - The Rockford College men's cross country team wasted no time in beginning their 2008 campaign with a victory over visiting Beloit College this afternoon. On a beautiful morning at the Fuller Forest Preserve, five Regents placed in the top eight finishers, en route to a 24-31 team victory.
Pacing the Regents was senior Tony Hardin (St. Peters, MO/ Howell Central) and junior Seth Lagerhausen (Mesa, AZ/ Dobson), who completed the 2.85 mile course in times of 14:38 and 14:44, good for first and second places , respectively. Three new additions to the Rockford program freshmen Tyler Mendenhall (Prophetstown, IL/ Prophetstown) and Victor Reyes (Winthop HArbor, IL/ Benton Harbor) and sophomore Randy Ebert (Belvidere, IL/ MArengo) opened their careers with top 10 finishes.
Though they did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score, the Regents women's cross country team also made a strong showing against Beloit. Junior Audra Carlson (Winnebago, IL/ Winnebago) finished the 2.05 mile run in seventh place in 13:46.68. Junior Mayra Yanez (Houston, TX/ MacArthur) and freshman Hannah Church (Okemos, MI/ Clarksville) also finished in the top 15.
The Regents men's and women's cross country teams wil face Waubonsee College in Sugar Grove, IL next Saturday.
