Insko Off to Hot Start

ROCKFORD, IL – For most, spending hours during summer on the golf course is a dream. For Regents senior Andrew Insko (South Beloit, IL/ Christian Life), it was considered work for the upcoming golf season. Through the first two events of the fall 2008 golf season, the hard work is paying off.
Insko and his Regents teammates opened the season playing in the Highlands “36” Invitational in Freeport. Insko finished the day’s first 18 holes with a 74, good for third. In a traditional tournament format, Insko would have been able to get some rest and be prepared for the second round. But at the Highland “36”, all 36 holes are played in one day. Insko circled the Park Hills Golf Club in 77 strokes, his total of 151 good for fourth place.
The 2007 All-Northern Athletics Conference performer followed that performance with another solid performance at the Marian University Invitational last weekend in northern Wisconsin. On Saturday, Insko played the Rolling Meadows Golf Course with a one over par 73. Insko completed the par-71 Qui Qui Oc Golf Club course with a 76 in Sunday’s second round. His total score of 149 was good for a third place tie.
“This year’s Regents golf team has some relatively inexperienced players, but Andrew has really been a stabilizing force,” said Regents golf coach Cory Espensen. “He’s our best player, but he is also one of our best teammates and a great leader on and off the course.”
The Regents golf team will continue their season on Saturday, when they play in the Edgewood College Invitational. Saturday’s action will take place at Glen Erin Golf Club in Janesville, WI and Sunday at Yahara Hills Golf Club in Madison, WI.
