ALMA, MI – “Unfamiliar Territory” would be a fitting title for the Rockford College football team standing through three games. After dropping today’s game at Alma College 59-21, the Regents fall to 0-3 for the first time in school history.
The Regents got on the board early in the second quarter when freshman Brandon Stinson (Chicago, IL/ Prosser) crossed the goal line after a 29 yard run. Stinson’s first career touchdown brought the Regents to within two points at 9-7. After another touchdown and two-point conversion by the Scots, Rockford would answer with a19 play, 80 yard drive, capped off with a one yard touchdown run by sophomore Jason Hosey (Chicago, IL/ Prosser). By halftime, the Regents trailed only 17-14.
When both teams came out for the second half, the Scots grabbed control of the game, scoring 28 points in the third quarter. The Regents would add another late score, an 18 yard run by freshman Sean Milligan (Richmond Hill, GA/ Richmond Hill).
Senior quarterback Matt Muscia (Chicago, IL/ Holy Cross) led the Regents offense with 12 rushes for 39 yards and went 13-25 for 125 yards passing. Brad Pemberton (Carol Stream, IL/ Glenbard North) had six catches for 49 yards. Defensively, senior safety Zac Wilken (East Moline, IL/ United Township) led Rockford with six tackles and Nick Infante (Chicago, IL/ St. Patrick) made two interceptions.
The Regents will use next week’s bye to try to right the ship before moving into their first ever Northern Athletics Conference game on October 4 against Lakeland College in Sheboygan, WI.
