ROCK ISLAND, IL - Seven members of the men’s cross country team and two members of the women’s team ran personal best times of the season at the Augustana Brissman-Lundeen Invitational on Saturday, September 20th.
Competing on the gently rolling hills of Rock Island’s Saukie Golf Course, the Regents primary reason for scheduling this meet was to get an opportunity to run on the NCAA Regional cross country course and compete against a stellar field of teams from Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri.
Senior Tony Hardin (St. Peters, MO/Howell Central) led the men’s team with a 23rd place finish in a field of 343 runners and Audra Carlson (Winnebago, IL/Winnebago) led the women finishing 147th in the field of 315 women.
Tyler Mendenhall (Prophetstown, IL/Prophetstown), Victor Reyes (Winthrop Harbor, IL/Zion Benton), Randy Ebert (Belvidere, IL/ Marengo), Rob Fry (Poplar Grove, IL/Belvidere), Hannah Church (Okemos, MI/Clarksville) all improved over thirty seconds per person and received high praise from Regents Cross Country Coach Roger Fredrickson. “We wanted to see the course, work on even paced running, pack running, and in the process really broke through a multitude of personal barriers. We had nine runners surpass personal bests for the season but Tyler, Victor, Randy, Rob, and Hannah really put it together today.”
The “Running Regents” will host an alumni run on October 11th and resume collegiate competition on October 18th at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
