Graduate Assistant Position

 

Position Description :

The graduate assistant position in the Lang Center is a very diverse position. The student will have experiences within the Health, Wellness, Counseling and Disability Services Center as well as in the Rockford Community. The graduate assistant will work with the Director of Lang Center on community outreach programs that include programs through the Rockford Health Council,and the University of Illinois College of Medicine as well as other community agencies.

 

The graduate assistant will be an integral part of disability services providing one on one assistance to students and technical support for textbook conversion and adaptive software. The graduate assistant will also provide support for health and wellness activities on site i.e. nutrition and fitness education, drug and alcohol education, sexual assault prevention, sexually transmitted illness prevention, and general health education information to the campus community including making this information available on our website.

The graduate assistant will work collaboratively with campus activities and residence life staff to promote healthy lifestyle programming to our campus.

 

Responsibilities:

Maintain weekly organized schedule at Lang

Attend Lang Center weekly staff meetings

Maintain open lines of communication between community agencies and campus offices

Provide technical assistance for DSS students in the areas of adaptive software and textbook conversion

One one one tutoring with students especially in areas of reading and writing

Develop relationships with neighborhood schools and organizations (Rockford Public School District 205, Rockford Sexual Assault, WAVE, , United Way, Winnebago County Health Department) and foster long term relationships between Rockford College and these agencies.

Work with nursing and counseling to provide health education programming to residential and commuter student groups.

 

Qualifications:

Must have a bachelor's degree

Must be admitted in a Master's program (MAT, MBA)

Must have familiarity with volunteer agencies

Must have good interpersonal and communication skills

Must possess excellent computer skills to include word processing, database use and OCR software.
