“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” opens Rockford University Theatre season

Rockford, Ill. – The Rockford University Performing Arts Department will open its 2013-2014 theatre season by hosting the musical "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” The show opens Thursday, October 3 and runs through Sunday, October 6, in Rockford University’s Cheek Theatre, located in the Clark Arts Center, 5050 East State Street, Rockford.  

The musical is a comedic tale of overachievers’ anxiety, following six adolescent outcasts competing for the spelling championship of a lifetime. Along the way they learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t always make you a loser. "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” music and lyrics are by William Finn, book by Rachel Sheinkin and was conceived by Rebecca Feldman.  

The musical will show Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m,. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 Adult, $7.00 Senior, $7.00 Student. Group rates are available.
