Teaching Position in General
and Inorganic Chemistry
Rockford College is
seeking to fill a one-year position in chemistry, to begin in August 2013 and
continue through May 2014. The position would include teaching general
chemistry and an advanced course in inorganic chemistry. The ideal candidate
will have the Ph.D. in hand, but individuals near completion of that degree are
welcome to apply.
The Department will be conducting a tenure-track
search for a position to begin in August of 2014, and the successful candidate
for this one-year position would be welcome, and encouraged, to apply as a
candidate in that search.
Rockford College is a small, liberal
arts college with approximate 750 full-time undergraduates. Teaching is
paramount at the institution, so we are looking for candidates with an
enthusiasm and talent for teaching.
Our first semester general chemistry course
typically has an enrollment of about 50 students, with somewhat fewer students
in the second semester course. We welcome candidates who see chemistry as part
of a wider experience in learning and who can make connections to other disciplines.
The upper-division courses have small numbers of students, usually between 3-10
in a course, which allows for rewarding student-faculty interactions.
Please send curriculum vitae, a brief statement
of teaching philosophy, and a list of three references to Dr. Deborah R.
Breiter, Chair, Department of Chemical & Biological Sciences, Rockford
College, 5050 E. State Street, Rockford, IL 61108, ChemSearch@rockford.edu.
