Job Title: Director of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS)


Rockford College (Rockford University as of July 1, 2013) seeks an enthusiastic and dynamic leader to join its Global Affairs management team as Director of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS). This position is charged with ensuring specialized support services for all international students and faculty, while providing leadership in developing a shared institutional vision of enhanced international study, global awareness and comprehensive internationalization; working collaboratively with academic and administrative units to implement that vision.


Program Development, Management and Evaluation (70%)

· Oversees all operations of ISSS office, including education abroad, inbound student and scholar services, international education programming, global diversity awareness, and programming supportive of comprehensive internationalization at Rockford College.

· Promotes educational, social, and cultural programs designed to integrate students into the College and supports internationalization efforts by providing intercultural opportunities for the community

· Provides training and education opportunities for faculty and staff for handling globally diverse student population inside and outside the classroom

· Provides international students with necessary pre- and post-arrival information

· Supplements academic advising by managing international students on academic probation.

· Immigration

o Advises international students in F-1 and J-1 status on immigration regulations. Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternative Responsible Officer (ARO)

o Issues I-20s (Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant F-1 Student Status) and DS-2019s (Certificate of Eligibility for J-1 Exchange Visitor Status) for students

Policy Development and Strategic Planning (15%)

· Assists with the articulation and maintenance of College policies related to international programs

· Manages International Student and Scholar Services strategic planning process

· Articulates College-wide goals and objectives

· Helps various academic and administrative units develop specific internationalization strategies

Supervision and Communications (10%)

· Supervises support staff, professional staff, and Global Faculty Fellow program

· Assists in strategic communications on international programs, including production of annual report

· Represents Global Affairs at events and programs on and off-campus

· Serves as an advocate and raving fan of comprehensive internationalization

Member of Global Affairs Leadership Team (5%)

· Acts as team member and colleague of Global Affairs management team in establishing strategic direction of comprehensive internationalization, including international recruiting, International Students and Scholar Services, and ESL

· Develops reports on activities, accomplishments, and needs

· Advocates for services and resources that enhance the overall mission and goals of International Students and Scholar Services

· Other duties as assigned


· Knowledge of SEVIS, F-1 and J-1 visa student regulations

· Knowledge of the principles of student advising and student development theory

· Skill in the use of personal computers and general office software

· Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing

· Ability to effectively manage multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment

· Ability to think critically, set priorities, and make sound and prudent decisions

· Ability to supervise and direct the work of support and professional staff

· Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours

· Ability to travel to off-campus work locations

· Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse student populations



Goal-oriented leader with ability to act responsibly and entrepreneurially in initiating action plans for change and improvement

· Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution [required]; Master's degree [preferred] 

· U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident[required]by Federal regulations.

· Experience in providing F-1[required]and J-1[preferred]immigration advising to college or university students

· International experience that may include studying, living or working abroad, or interacting with international students

· Experience working in a college or university providing advising, orientation, and programming for international students

· Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
