Tenure-Track Teaching Position in Dance
Rockford College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Dance in the Performing Arts Department beginning August 2013. An MFA is required for hire, along with evidence of excellence and interest in teaching. The principal focus of the position is the effective teaching of beginning to advanced levels of ballet, tap, jazz, musical comedy and basic ballroom. Teaching of dance history and the choreographing of two main stage musicals each year is also the chief responsibility of this position. Knowledge of dance therapy and movement for the actor is not primary but would be a plus.
Currently, the dance program supports the highly successful Musical Theatre program, but we hope that the candidate can bring us back to having a strong minor in dance. Enthusiasm for teaching in a small liberal arts college setting is essential. We are looking for the person who would thrive in a small program and work to expand it.
Rockford College has a full-time undergraduate enrollment of about 750 students. Faculty, therefore, interact with students often and in many settings: as teachers, as advisors, and at campus activities. While it is not a requirement of this position, in addition to the normal courses, we encourage faculty to explore teaching opportunities outside the department. The new faculty member would also be welcome to participate in our First-Year Seminar program or our Honors Program in Liberal Arts. We seek, too, a faculty member who would become active in the life of the college.
How to Apply / Contact
Applications will be reviewed as they arrive and will be accepted until March 1st. Please send curriculum vita, a statement of teaching philosophy and research/performance interests, and three letters of recommendation to Ms. Rebecca Wallgren, Administrative Assistant to Clark Arts, Rockford College, 5050 E.
