Assistant Professor of Modern and Classical Languages, John Burns, Ph.D., co-edited and co-translated an anthology of poems from several authors. The anthology titled, "Una tribu del salvajes improvisando a las puertas del infierno: Anotología de poesía Beat” or "A tribe of savages improvising at the gates of hell: Anthology of Beat poetry” is a collection of poetry from the"Beat Generation," the nickname given to a group of poets that emerged in the late 1940s that was characterized by a perceived underground, anti-conformist youth movement in New York. Dr. Rubén Medina, Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UW-Madison, along with Dr. John Burns, took the anthology further and translated and edited it into Spanish, being careful to recognize nuances and rhythm. The duo’s anthology was published by Aldus and the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. Dr. Burns presented the book at the Feria Internacional del Libro in Guadalajara, Mexico in November, 2012.
