Rockford Rescue Mission's annual Sleep/Walk event comes to campus November 9
Tuesday, November 06, 2012
Rockford College is pleased to be a presenting sponsor and host for the Rockford Rescue Mission's annual Sleep/Walk: Sleep a Night in My Box and Walk a Mile in My Shoes event taking place on campus Friday, Nov. 9. The event serves as a kickoff to National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week (Nov. 10-18). Other presenting sponsors are Sam's Club and Cumulus Media.
Sleep/Walk is an event dedicated to providing an opportunity for groups and individuals to experience homelessness - for one night. Check-in and registration will begin at 6 p.m. Sleep/Walk participants will show solidarity and support to homeless men, women and children by joining in a one-mile walk throughout campus. Participants will also enjoy a concert, outdoor viewing of the film, The Blind Side, and sleep under the stars in their own cardboard-box "houses." A simple breakfast will be provided on Saturday morning.
A minimum donation of $25 is required for individuals, and family groups of five or more are asked to donate $100 to participate in the event. Additional monetary pledges are also encouraged, as well as donations of food and clothing. All proceeds benefit the men, women and children served by the Rockford Rescue Mission.
