EUREKA, Ill. - The women's soccer team hit the road on Saturday afternoon to try and defeat the Eureka College Red Devils for the second time in two years. The Regents knew it would be a difficult task as they entered the season without their top goal scorer from last year.
It was a very competitive first half of soccer that saw each team take a one goal lead at some point during the half. The Regents jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead less than eight minutes into the match. It was sophomore Callie Schmidt (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) who received a perfect pass from junior Jamie Logan (Dixon, Ill./Dixon) and smashed it into the goal from about six yards out. Eureka would answer later in the first half with two goals of their own taking a 2-1 lead into halftime.
After a quick Eureka goal to start the second half, Schmidt would once again work her magic scoring her second goal of the afternoon this one from about 35 yards out cutting the Red Devil lead to just one goal. However, that would be as close as the Regents would get as Eureka would put the match away scoring three more times in the second half to win the match 6-2.
The Regents will return to the field on Wednesday, September 5th when they travel to Mequon, Wis. to play Concordia University Wisconsin. The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
