MADISON, Wis. - The Regents women's tennis team concluded its three match opening weekend on Sunday with a trip up to Madison to play the Edgewood College Eagles. It was a very difficult weekend for Rockford as the ladies opened with three matches, all on the road, in just over a twenty-four hour time period. Rockford fell in all three matches losing at Lakeland and at Marian on Saturday and then at Edgewood on Sunday morning dropping them to 0-3 on the season.
Junior Alexis Ford (Cortland, Ill./DeKalb) played a couple of hard fought matches over the weekend in her first collegiate tennis matches. Ford battled out of the #3 spot winning eight games in her two singles matches on Saturday, the most of anyone on the team.
Sophomore Jessica Segalla (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) got the nod to play in the #1 spot after playing in just three matches last season in that position. Segalla put up a valiant effort but fell in all three of her singles matches as well. In doubles Segalla and her partner Carla Ramirez (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) played fairly well for only playing together once all of last year. The two lost all three of their doubles matches as well but played hard and were competitive.
The ladies will return to the court on Saturday, September 8th when they again play a doubleheader on the road. The Regents will start the day with a match at MSOE at 10 a.m. and finish the day with a match at Concordia University Wisconsin starting at 2 p.m.
