Prenatal
Music Education: Baby Expressions
|
 |
The Music Academy
offers a new curriculum this fall in collaboration with
OSF St. Anthony Medical Center . The Music Academy and Kantorei
Associate Director, Diane Knight, add a component to the
prenatal education program currently offered through the
hospital. Diane will lead mothers and their partners through
a series of activities designed to help parents create a
bond with their baby, to reduce stress and to teach relaxation
through listening to and engaging with music.
Ms. Knight and the
Music Academy believe strongly that early bonding is the
foundation for the child's personality and future life.
Daily in our work we witness music inspiring students to
be happy, relaxed, alert, active and possess an attractive
“radiance.” This class will help parents begin to make a
practice of engaging with music and their babies in their
daily lives.
There is no cost
to parents enrolled in the prenatal education classes at
OSF St. Anthony thanks to underwriting from the OSF Foundation
Board. Please call Jodie Garcia of OSF at (815) 227-2695
or the Music Academy at (815) 226-4168 for more information.
Music
As Pleasure (Class)
Learn to understand
and enjoy music in this evening class through guided listening,
discussions, lectures and field trips. Each semester new
areas of music are discussed. Join us for this sociable
and thoughtful exposure to some of the world's finest music.
Margaret Kleber, instructor, says people put on their musical
clothes in layers. Know a lot? Know a little? Join in for
great fun, trips and camaraderie. Classes begin in September
and January.
An adult member
of this class and long-time Music Academy student, Dr. Robert
E. Heerens, has just published his autobiography. In it,
Dr. Heerens writes of the importance of music in his own
life.
