MIDWEST
CAMPUS COMPACT CITIZEN SCHOLAR FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM (M3C)
HANNAH
STRAVERS
"Being
an M3C fellow has given me many opportunities to learn about my
world. I have been working on a project called PeaceJam. This project
has helped me grow in many ways.
When
I first came to Rockford College I had to meet with professors and
area leaders to set up a plan for how PeaceJam would run. After
setting a basis for the semester I met with my fellow students to
explain to them what we had brainstormed for the meetings with high
school students.
The
next big task for me, and probably the most exciting, was meeting
with the high school students. I was very nervous that they wouldn't
want us there and that they would ignore everything I was saying.
But I had to get over my fear and lead the meeting. Now, looking
back, I'm proud of myself for getting a club started in Roosevelt
High School .
I
have enjoyed working with other M3C service fellows. Having group
discussions together, discussing what we are interested in for service,
what problems we are having at our service site, and just having
fun together are a very important part of the fellowship. I have
made friends with all the M3C fellows and they continue to support
me and the work I do on campus."

"My
M3C Fellowship was a great experience. Among all the projects,
homework, and activities of college it helped me focus and take
time on something I really care about: community service, and specifically
my project, PeaceJam.
By
mentoring high school students and working with my fellow Fellows
throughout the year I was able to, not only feel like I was making
a difference in my community, but learn more about people, relationships,
the world, and myself.
As
a searching first year college student, along with meeting with
my AmeriCorps mentor and other M3C Fellows, this was very beneficial
in helping me adjust and find a place in college life.
I would recommend the M3C experience to anyone, and I hope to continue
it in the future."
