Elementary Student Teaching
Debra
Dew is a former public school music teacher. She
teaches middle and secondary education methods courses and
specializes in effective practice related to teacher education.
An active member of the Association of Teacher Educators
(ATE), Dr. Dew has served on several national committees.

Reading
Lou Ferroli has
two decades of experience as a classroom teacher, reading
clinician, and reading consultant. As a college professor,
he specializes in reading instruction, diagnosis, and literacy
research. He served on committees of the Illinois Reading
Council and the Illinois State Board of education. Lou is
a recent winner of Rockford College's coveted Excellence
in Teaching award.

Stafford

Learning Disabilities
Lynn
Stafford is the Director of SPED Programs and an
Assistant Professor in the Department of Education. She
specializes in inclusion, interventions and accommodations
for the education and development of the exceptional child.
Lynn has extensive experience in classroom teaching and
the administration and development of special education
programs.

Chair
Barbara
Swanson, Assistant Professor and Chair of the Education
Department, joined the Education Department in the fall
of 2000 coming from an elementary teaching career of over
20 years. During those years, she taught grades three through
six at various times and in several different states including
Ohio, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
Professor Swanson received her B.S. degree from Bob Jones
University in Greenville, South Carolina. She received her
Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Rockford College.

Secondary Student Teaching
JoEllen Vause,
Director of Secondary Education, is a former middle, junior
high, and high school teacher. She is the secondary clinical
experiences coordinator, teaches secondary math methods
and middle school programs, and supervises student teachers.
