A "Celebration of Peace”
Monday, September 16 at 12
p.m. in Fisher Memorial Chapel
The celebration features several speakers,
including Rockford University President Robert L. Head, Ph.D ; Suzanne
Crandall ’83, local story teller and Jane Addams historian; and Month of
Peace organizers Mr. James and Mrs. Pam Keeling, As part of the
celebration, President Head will be presented with a Peace Pole by local
President of the Rockford Interfaith council Professor Kanwal
Barrie Carter Gibby ’70, will be
speaking about the importance of labyrinths.
Wednesday, September 18, from 6-8 p.m. in the
Burpee Center’s Grace Roper Lounge
Ms. Gibby is a Veriditas
trained labyrinth facilitator. A labyrinth is a flat, circular path that
is designed to symbolize life’s journey. A shoe labyrinth will be
created on campus to benefit Carpenter’s Place. The circuitous path will
be lined with athletic shoes and be walked from 10 am – 4 p.m on Saturday, September 21.
Donations of new, and like new, athletic shoes are being accepted on
campus through Friday, September 20. A collection bin is available in
the Burpee Center lobby. Ms. Gibby will also be leading the

Rockford’s Peace Month is a collaborative effort
with the community to promote peace within the city of Rockford, as well
as in the nation and the world. JACCE has organized these activities
to coincide with events being held at the Keeling-Puri Peace Plaza
throughout Peace Month.
