The Exquisite Menagerie: Recent Work by Betsy Youngquist, Michael Noland, and Lauren Levato
Reception for the Artists: Friday, April 5, 6:00-8:00 p.m. (Spring ArtScene)
Michael Noland's paintings are based on traditional American scenes that are molded to his unique vision. Noland creates vitality though exaggeration in form, repetition of line and saturation of color. Common views and unique animals seem both darkly surreal and amusing.
Betsy Youngquist’s mixed media beadwork reflects a fascination with the intersection of humans, animals, and mythology. Stemming from a life-long love of all creatures great and small, Betsy’s work weaves together the human and animal spirit through a surrealistic lens.
Lauren Levato delves into wonder and memory in her recent drawings that explores how the body itself becomes a Wunderkammer, a cabinet of curiosities.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. The gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 3 – 6 p.m. and by appointment. Please contact the Rockford College Art Gallery Curator for more information at 815.226.4105 or mcarter@rockford.edu.
