Spring 2013 Leadership Certificate Program
OPERATIONS:
Managing your most valuable asset. Human capital is the most valuable asset in
any organization. Discussion on the importance of acknowledging staff as people
more than just "worker bees” and defining the difference of a manager versus a
leader is key to developing positive employee relations in any organization. To
be successful, you must be able to attract and retain qualified staff.
Participants will walk through the recruitment process with focus on creating
accurate job descriptions, interview questions which uncover applicant
competencies and behaviors, understanding the value of using personality
assessments, how to complete reference checks and determining when
credit/background checks and drug/alcohol screenings should be used. Discussion
on performance management will include; how to prepare and set the stage for
the formal evaluation process, how to coach and write-up poor performing
employees up to and including termination without fear of liability.
Participants will share in a review of common state and federal laws that
employers are required to follow.
