The Birth of Chess?: Linnaeus and the Viking Game of Hnefatafl by John C. Ashton
An independent scholar, Mr. Ashton discusses his new translation of Swedish botanist Carolus Linnaeus' 1732 Lapland botanical expedition journal. The translation resulted in contributions to Viking age archeology though its description of a board game called Tablut, related to the Viking game of Hnefatafl.
