Katy JenkinsWhat do I like most about Rockford College: I love the small college feel. The professors know who you are and care about you as a person. You can be more than just your ID number to all faculty and staff.

Hello audience!
.....Well, we have reached the end of the year. Classes are over and graduation is tomorrow! I've actually been done with my finals since Thursday, but I have to stay to sing with Vocal Collective at graduation. I've watched most of my friends go home, watched their Facebook statuses prove that they made it home okay. Some of my friends, though, will be graduating tomorrow. Even though I doubt any of them will ever read this, I'd like to dedicate the rest of this post to them.
You guys have been really good friends to me. It's really gonna be strange to walk through the halls, to go to parties, to do anything without you guys. You've been here since I have been so I'm not really sure what school with be without you. You're all gonna do great in the world and I hope to see your names in lights.
To everyone else at school, I hope your summer is glorious. Come back to school in the fall ready to face the new year.
Have a great summer! ~Katy

Hello audience!
Welcome to the beautiful month of April! It's been rainy around here, which seems to be odd for Rockford. Back in Louisiana it rains frequently, so I don't get all the fuss. Rockford people seem to think the rain is magic, which I find funny. (Hint: It's just water!)
Guys and Dolls is coming along great! Dances have been choreographed, lines have been learned, and scenes have been staged. Tonight, we begin runs starting with the individual acts. Act 1 will be run tonight and tomorrow. Act 2 will be run on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, we will run the whole show for the first time. Bum, bum, buuuuuum! It's pretty scary, but we've got start running the entire show sooner or later (Sooner is prefferable!)
Wow! It's so hard to believe that finals are just around the corner. Guys and Dolls fiishes up on May 1st. After that, there's one week of regular class then FINALS! Summer is really coming up fast! Another year at Rockford College is coming very quickly to a close. My senior friends will graudate soon and wish them all the best. Cassie, Mariah, Daniel, Cayla, Brian, Andy, and Michael.... They're going off into the world of Musical Theatre! I know they'll do great, but I'll talk more about them in my next post. If I do so now, I'll just get sad.
One month left! We can do it!

Hello audience! Katy here, with another glimpse into my life!
Well, midterms have past! Tests have been taken and grades have been posted. As for my grades specifically, I did pretty well. One B, one A-, and a bunch of As. As a Presidental Scholar, I have to keep my GPA rather high, so grade-posting time is particularly terrifying. I've made it through another posting just fine! :)
Being that midterms have past, this also means that Spring Break is past. That is a sad notion, but means we are getting ever closer to the end of the year. As of today (March 15th), there are exactly two months left til graduation. Though I am a sophomore myself, I have to sing at graduation with the Vocal Collective, so 15th is my last obligation for the year. I spent half of my Spring Break on tour with the Vocal Collective in Kansas City and the other half in good ol' Louisiana, visiting my family/friends/home in general.
Guys and Dolls has also started up. Last night, the entire cast got together and talked about background stories for thier characters. Even the chorus groups had to come up with who their character was. Name, age, place of birth, and a brief background were required as well as the story of how you met one other member of the chorus. Most people chose to do this in the form of romantic relationships, though we have a few friends, enemies, and siblings as well.
Goodness, I guess I'm going a bit of rambling here, aren't I?
Anyway, I hope y'all have a good St. Patrick's Day and that everything goes well until the next time I post!

Hello audience!
Sorry, it's been a while. I seem to sort of bad at this blogging thing, but I'm getting better. It's all so new, so it's a bit hard to keep up with.
Anyway, on to topic.
MIDTERMS!
I have officially reached the middle point of my sophomore year, which means I'm almost halfway through my college career as a whole. That's a scary, scary thought.
Prep work for Guys and Dolls begins tomorrow. The Hot Box Girls have a meeting to discuss something. I'm sure it will be phenomenal.
Speaking of almost through the school year, I'm done with all of my mass auditions to find summer work. I've been to Ohio, Wisconsin, and St. Louis for these auditions, but all the traveling is done. After seeing almost 70 companies at these three auditions, I'm hoping someone wants me to work for them. If not... better luck next time, me! I'll be headed home to Louisiana for the summer to go to a bunch of workshops and work on improving myself. Hurray!
Oh! Vocal Collective is holding a preview concert for our Spring Break Tour work this upcoming Thursday. We're off to Kansas City for the first part of Spring Break to bring music and hopefully find some brand new Regents! If you're interested in music, be sure to check this out! It'll be in Fischer Chapel at 7!
Anyway, I think that's about it. Until next time (which will be sooner, I promise)! ~Katy

Hey everybody! Welcome back to school and back to life as a Regent!
From the vantage point of a theatre major, this is a ridiculous time for me. This semester I am expected to go to huge mass auditions to attempt to find a summer theatre job. These mass auditions require an audition ranging from 60 to 90 seconds with a cut of a song and a monologue. As of right now, I have been to one of these auditions (the Ohio Theatre Alliance audition this past weekend) and happen to be signed up for two more (Midwest Theatre Auditions and the Wisconsin Theatre Auditions). I've gotten one callback from a theatre called Amish Acres, which is in Indiana.
On the topic of auditions, there's a big one at here at school! This coming Saturday (Jan. 29th), the Rockford College Performing Arts department will be holding auditions for the Spring production of Guys and Dolls! Everyone is welcome to come and show your stuff. The auditions will go a little something like this:
~10 AM-11 AM: Dance Auditions. Bring dance wear!
~11 AM -12 PM: Lunch Break
~12 PM-1:30 PM: Vocal Auditions. Prepare a 32 bar cut of a 40s song!
~2 PM-5:30 PM: Acting auditions
It'll be tons of fun and an extremely high energy show. Definitely hope to see all theatre enthusiasts there.
Until next time!

Hello current and potential Regents!
My name's Katy Jenkins and I've just been appointed new blogger for the school. I wanted to take the time to get my name out and to give everyone a 'hello'!
This is a bit of an odd time to starting writing, seeing as the semester is coming to an end. This was sort of what I wanted to write about anyway, so I'll let this be my intro post.
Finals.... Everyone hates them, right? Luckily for me, my major (Musical Theatre) means that finals work a little differently for me. My gen ed classes have normal finals, of course, but my theatre/music/dance classes are different. Because my field is so performance-based, it's quite rare to have a "real" final in one of these classes. Our final grades usually consist of recitals, or juries to show off what we've accomplished over the course of the semester.
I do have a written test in Theatre History and a composition final for Music Theory I. Everything else is a performance, though.
I'll definitely be checking in again before I go home for Winter Break (leaving on Dec. 14th), but until then... I wish everyone luck on their upcoming Finals.
Stay warm! ~Katy
