A message
from the Chair…
Thank you for visiting the Rockford College Performing
Arts Department. Welcome! You’re going to enjoy
what we have to offer.
The Performing Arts Department offers a Bachelor of
Arts in Theatre, a Bachelor of Arts in General Music
and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre Performance.
The department’s goal is to provide the best
in professional training blended with a strong liberal
arts education. You’ll find that we prepare you
not just for the first few years out of college, but
for the rest of your life.
You’ll be able to perform in our two excellent
performance spaces; Maddox Theatre, a 570 seat proscenium
theatre, and Cheek Theatre, a flexible black box space.
On average there are 12 productions utilizing these
two theatres, 4 main-stage productions, 4 Three-Penny
productions, and 4 productions by Artists Ensemble Theatre,
our resident professional equity theatre company.
As a Performing Arts major, you’ll be taken three
times each semester to see the best in professional
theatre, music and dance in Chicago, Milwaukee or Madison.
You’ll see performances in such places as The
Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre, The Shubert Theatre,
The Ford Center for the Performing Arts, The Lyric Opera
House, and Orchestra Hall, home of the Chicago Symphony.
And that’s just to name a few.
How about joining many of your fellow majors studying
theatre in London. A great many of our Performing Arts
majors spend a semester studying theatre at Regents
College, Rockford College’s home in London. Situated
in Regents Park in the heart of London, you’ll
be only a couple tube stops from the most active and
most historic theatre district in the world.
As you can see, there are many reasons to make Rockford
College your place to shine. Please enjoy the rest of
our web site. Then, give us a call.
Sincerely,
Noel Rennerfeldt
Associate Professor and Chair of the Performing Arts
Department
