Overview

The Department of Physical Education offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees through a program of study focused on the art and science of human movement and sport, which includes these elements:

Activities which are part of the human lifestyle and are intertwined with our cultural heritage that help students acquire knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to teach movement activities to future students.
Insights which enrich and expand students' understanding of the anatomical, biomechanical, developmental, historical, pedological, philosophical, physiological, psychological, and sociological aspects of motor performance.
Systematic study of teaching and learning theory, accompanied by supervised clinical and practicum experiences where concepts can be applied directly in a classroom or management setting.

Degree Requirements

Students may obtain a major in physical education by choosing one of three tracks that are offered. All tracks have the same core requirements. Additional course requirements depend on student choice of one of the following tracks: teaching certification, science emphasis, or business emphasis. The following are core requirements for all majors.

Minor in Physical Education

Physical Education minors of 18 to 20 hours may be devised to accommodate specific career needs. Minors are determined in consultation with the students' advisors.
